The 'John Lockett' life-boat is shown here at La Lande St Sampsons on the evening of the 21st October 1875 after being moved overland on the same day from St Peter Port where the naming ceremony took place.

The photograph was originally framed and though not in prime condition from the affects of the actions of UV light, sulphur staining from the wooden frame backing,creases and brown tape repairs etc, it is possibly unique as it it is signed by the Hon secretary and Coxswain of the life-boat and other notables.

For digital viewing, the image and wording has been enhanced and they can be seen in the other images.


An obviously clearer copy of the same photograph was scanned and printed on plate 20 in Victor Coysh's and Carel Toms' first photographic book 'GUERNSEY THROUGH THE LENS' which was published in 1978.
