The Norwegian owned Orion rig struck rocks at Grande Rocques in Guernsey on the 1st February 1978. The photograph shown here was taken from the Guernsey shoreline.

It was being towed in a storm from Rotterdam to Brazil - the tow line broke with 33 men on board - All persons were rescued by lifeboat anmd helicopter.

The rig was eventually salvaged by Wijsmuller and towed to Brazil by U.T.C. tug servicemen
