Thomas Guille
Thomas Guille

Thomas Guille, one of the founders of the GUILLE ALLES Library

The Library opened on 2 January 1882, with the extension opening on the 26th November 1888

Before the extension, the entrance was under the left-hand side of the French halls – the original doors are still there but hidden from view by the right side of Taylors. Above the door is the inscription ‘ingredere ut proficias’ meaning ‘enter so you may profit’ which is still there. It was Thomas and Frederick’s lifelong dream to share knowledge and learning with the people of Guernsey, enabling them to progress in which ever avenue of life they wished for.
