H J KAINES - PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
Henry Johnson Kaines (trading as HJ Kaines) operated from 3. St James street at the end of the 19th century until about 1909 (to be verified).

He was born in St Peter Port on the 24th April 1878 to Henry Winter Kaines and Eliza Ann Foard. Henry Johnson Kaines married Amy Luckhurst and had three children, namely Sybil Ada Kaines, Henry Dreyfuss Kaines and Florence Edna Kaines.

It is presumed that all of these men are rowers, but only one has a badge on his shirt. This has been enlarged in the next image.

The date of the photograph is between 1899 and 1910

On the back in pencil is a name 'Crowson', maybe one of the men depicted?
