Viewing the raising the Union flag on the Liberation of Guernsey

This is the occasion when the union flag was unfurled and raised outside the Royal Court marking the end of the Occupation. The Bailiff and The Controlling Committee with Officers of the liberating troops are standing at the Court House

Colonel H.R. Power can be seen on the immediate left of the Bailliff of Guernsey (with bowler hat), Mr Carey (later Sir Victor Carey) and Lt Col E.G. Stoneman commanding officer of 618 Regiment on the right.

The tall gentleman behind Sir Victor is R.H. Johns, a member of the States Controlling Committee

It is believed that the gentleman with the object in his lapel is the reverend Sir John Leale, who was president of the States Controlling Committee from December 1940 until August 1945. He was knighted in 1945. The smaller man behind him on his left with glasses is Louis Guillemette, secretary of the same Committee.
